It seems like many people that do sell it later on miss it to some degree. I would get some cheap avid levers as well. 3)Brakes-Noticable gain in performance from rim to disk brakes. 2)Grips-i used Ergon and was quite happy with the performance, it really takes the edge off of the rigid fork. I can't really ever see myself parting with this thing. My front wheel actually shifted once while bombing down a bumpy hill. To the OP: Personally, I LOVE my monocog. Horizontal dropouts, mechanical disc brakes, straight 1 1/8-inch steerer. I have previously owned and broken 4 other 29er singlespeeds by other makers. My 2009 Monocog has approaching 5,000 miles of singletrack. If it makes a difference to you then thats all that really matters isnt it? The Monocog is a tank-tough and simple 29er singlespeed. This bike will make you a stronger rider as you pick agressive lines to get ready for the climbs. The Sarthe has a timeless look that I feel will age well, unlike some of. I personally love the azure blue/off-white color combination. (about 1400g wheelset) with 26x2.1 Schwalbe Racing Ralphs (non UST) run as tubelss.I want to say it was about 26.5 lbs. would make a great candidate to convert to a 69er with a 29' suspension fork upfront without really changing the geometry of the bike. The geometry seems to suit me well (Im 510 and ride a 53 cm frame). I also have a redline monocog 29er that I put a reba race fork on it. That being said, if anyone loves the frame so much, go ahead, upgrade the hell out of it. Steel frame bikes, Redline Monocog 26' and 29er, Cannondale aluminum road bike, Trek carbon fiber road bike. Especially when you can combine the cost of the original bicycle and all the parts and look at what that thousand dollars could buy you in terms of a bicycle today. It may slightly improve, but not so much that it would be groundbreaking. Sure, you can put every carbon bit and trinket on there, but in the long run the function of the machine will not change. Aside from a few minor preferential things (brakes, pedals, etc) it is all that it will ever need to be in a bike. It is simple, you can beat it to hell, and have a great time doing it. The monocog is beautiful because of what it is right off of the line. I think what everyone is getting at is this:
